Born in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, Jesse Rath is best known to film and television fans as Alak Tarr in the hit SyFy series Defiance. Rath’s acting career began in 2005, as a runner in a sports film, The Greatest Game Ever Played and he later joined the cast of 2008’s Prom Wars: Love Is a Battlefield, followed by an appearance in the television movie, Dead Like Me: Life After Death, based on the hit Showtime series.
After getting cast in the mini-series, Assassin’s Creed: Lineage, inspired by the long running Assassin’s Creed gaming franchise, Rath was cast in a recurring role in the Disney XD show, Aaron Stone. He was then cast as one of the main leads in the critically acclaimed Canadian television series18 to Life, a role which garnered him 2 Gemini Awards co-nominations. In 2011, he then appeared in the horror film, The Howling: Reborn.
Returning to television in 2012, Jesse Rath joined the cast of Canadian series, Mudpit and guest-starred on Being Human playing the role of the younger brother of the female lead, who is in fact his real-life sister, Meaghan.
In mid-2012, he was cast in Defiance, the television series and crossover MMO that has garnered legions of fans since its launch. As Alak Tarr, the son of powerful Castithan’s, Rath’s character is one caught in the middle of an epic struggle between the status quo and a brand new paradigm.
